Art In July 2025

A big thankyou to Richard Klekociuk who was kind enough to come down from Launceston to judge the exhibition. Because the opening was on the Friday night, he was unable to attend the opening. Wendy Ellen presented Richard with two bottles of Tasmanian Ninth Island wine as a thankyou gift for judging the exhibition.

First prize went to Robyn Smith for “Running Free”, a driftwood sculpture of a horse’s head. Second prize went to Shantelle Perry for a dog portrait titled “Golden Hour”. Third prize went to Adrienne Monson for her landscape titled “Heaven”. Highly commended was awarded to Amy Morrow for “Where’s Alice” and Jude Ball for “Late Afternoon on the Deck”.

A painting was removed from the exhibition because it was nearly an exact copy of another artist’s work. This was brought to our attention by a visitor who said she’d seen the painting on the internet. Research concluded it was a copy, so it was removed from display, and the artist was refunded the entry fee.

The opening night was poorly attended, and it has been suggested for next year the opening could be on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, especially at this time of the year.

One painting was sold to a tourist, so it was decided that painting could be taken before conclusion of the exhibition. However, there were other works collected before the end of the exhibition. A stipulation might need to be added to the entry form that work must remain until the end of the exhibition unless it has been sold to someone travelling.

The exhibition was organised by Brian Hardy and Wendy Ellen.  Art in July followed on from the Mission to Seafarers exhibition which Brian also organised, so it was a busy time for him. A big thankyou to Brian for doing that.
